Information on How and Where to Use Essential Oils

Safety
Please remember that essential oils are very powerful so please treat them as such.
Essential Oils on the Skin
In most cases, essential oils should not be used undiluted on the skin.
As a general rule, essential oils should be diluted in a carrier oil like coconut oil or almond oil in a 1-5% solution.(1-5 drops of essential oilsper teaspoon of carrier oil) Less for children.
Undiluted use on the skin can cause irritation or an allergic reaction
Use on Babies and Children Essential oils should never be given internally to children or used
undiluted on the skin.
They should be diluted more than they are for adult application andcare should be taken with any essential oils considered “hot” as they may cause damage to the skin.
In general, oils like lavender, chamomile, orange, lemon and frankincense are considered safe for diluted use on children, but do a skin test and check with a doctor first.
Some oils have caused seizures in children and extreme caution should be used .(Albeit, these seizure reactions were rare and most were in people who were predisposed to seizures)
Peppermint, rosemary, eucalyptus and wintergreen should not be used around young children or babies. These herbs contain menthol and 1,8-cineole. These compounds can slow breathing (or even stop it
completely) in very young children or those with respiratory problems.
Essential Oils in Plastics
Essential oils should never be stored in plastic containers, especially in concentrated forms. Many essential oils can eat through plastics whenundiluted

Oils in the same category generally blend well together.
As a General Rule:

Woodsy oils generally blend well with all categories.
Spicy and oriental oils blend well with florals, oriental and citrus oils.
Minty oils blend well with citrus, woodsy, herbaceous and earthy oils.
The Top,Middle and Base Notes in Blending
Oils that evaporate the quickest, usually within 1-2 hours, are called “top notes.”
Oils that evaporate with 2-4 hours are considered “middle notes.”
Oils that take the longest time to evaporate are referred to as “base notes.”
Blending Tips
Blending does not have hard and fast rules that must be followed. There are some basics but
this is why it is so fun and you will enjoy having fun experimenting
.
When creating a new blend, start out small with a total number of drops of either 5, 10,
20 or 25 drops. 25 drops should be the most that you start with. By starting small, you
waste less oil in your blending experiments.
Start off your blending experiments by creating blends that are made up in the following
ratio(more or less):
30% of the oils are top notes
20% are middle notes
10% are base notes.

DILUTIONS:
Essential oils are very strong and should be diluted in a carrier oil
or incorporated into a finished product such as a massage oil, lotion, or
aroma spray. Whether diluting an essential oil or adding it to a finished
product, the oil content should only account for 1% to 2% of the total blend.
Here’s an easy guide for how much essential oil to add to 1 oz of carrier oil
or to a finished product. These dilutions for 1 oz can be easily multiplied for
larger batches of finished product or divided for a fraction of an ounce.
1% DILUTION
1 oz = 30 ml = 600 drops of oil
1% of 600 drops is 6
Add 6 drops of essential oil for 1 oz of carrier oil or finished product.
2% DILUTION
1 oz = 30 ml = 600 drops of oil
2% of 600 drops is 12
Add 12 drops of essential oil for 1 oz of carrier oil or finished product…
